Sandro Botticelli is one of the best-known names in the lexicon of art history and his Birth of Venus in the Uffizi is one of the world's most famous art images. Later this month a painting by the Renaissance master and his studio goes under the hammer at the Drouot auction centre in Paris.

Among recent highlights at the Drouot in Paris, Beaussant- Lefèvre’s (21.53% buyer’s premium inc VAT) classic sale of Old Masters, furniture and works of art on October 18 produced a substantial €265,000 (£240,910) for a modestly estimated bronze of the goddess Diana.

They include a rare appearance at the rostrum for a work by a Greek artist who studied in the Bavarian capital and a 19th century Orientalist subject painted in Rome by a German artist shortly after a return journey from Greece.
